The Position

East Bay Municipal Utility District’s (EBMUD’s) Facilities Maintenance and Construction Division, part of the Operations and Maintenance Department (OMD), is seeking a highly qualified individual with exceptional technical, interpersonal and communication skills. The individual selected will supervise personnel in the Plant Engineering Services Section and will report to the Manager of Facilities Maintenance and Construction.

The ideal candidate is well prepared to:

  • Provide leadership and motivation to a multi-disciplinary staff
  • Plan, schedule, assign, supervise and evaluate the work of staff engineers, planners, administrative support staff, and consultants
  • Provide technical support for other divisions within OMD
  • Manage asset lists and maintenance and job plan development for capital improvements.
  • Coordinate section activities with other EBMUD sections, consultants, contractors, representatives of other agencies, and work collaboratively to provide timely and efficient service
  • Supervise special planning, engineering studies, and investigations
  • Respond to changing demands with flexibility and innovation
  • Manage and prioritize multiple competing interests with diplomacy and tact
  • Establish and implement performance and quality control standards
  • Communicate effectively both orally and in writing

A flexible/hybrid work from home schedule may be available for some positions in this job classification.

The salary range is $13,830 per month increasing to $14,521, $15,247, and $16,009 after 6, 18, and 30 months, respectively.

Requirements

1. A bachelor’s degree in a civil, electrical, environmental, or mechanical engineering curriculum which is accredited by ABET or a California EIT certificate.

2. A minimum of six years of professional engineering experience* including two years of experience comparable to, or higher than, EBMUD’s Associate Engineer class.

3. Registration as a Civil, Electrical, or Mechanical Professional Engineer in the state of California.

4. Must possess a valid California driver’s license and have a satisfactory driving record; must be willing to work beyond normal work hours when needed; and must possess the physical characteristics to perform the critical and important duties of the position.

  • An advanced degree in an accredited engineering curriculum may be substituted for one year of the required experience.

The Selection Process

1. Submit a completed EBMUD application and the required supplemental question responses online at www.ebmud.com by 4:30 p.m., Friday, April 7, 2023. Only application materials submitted online during the filing period will be accepted.

2. Candidates must achieve a passing score on each test part in order to advance to the next step in the selection process.

3. All qualified applications and supplemental responses will be competitively evaluated, with those candidates receiving a passing score to be invited to a panel interview scheduled for April or May 2023.

4. Successful candidates will be placed on the hiring list, based on rank, for further consideration to fill the current regular vacancy, as well as others occurring over the next 12 to 24 months.

5. The probation period for this position is 12 months. For those holding civil service status the probation period is 6 months.

6. All employment offers are conditional, pending the results of a Live Scan background screening. All selected finalists must participate in the Live Scan background screening process to remain in consideration for EBMUD employment.
