Job Overview

Ceres Chill is a rapidly scaling consumer products company in the baby space, headquartered in the Pacific Northwest, while selling its products all over the United States and with growing global demand. The Company’s rapid growth means that its operations need to scale promptly, and with as little friction and disruption to the organization as possible.

The Operations Manager of Ceres Chill will significantly contribute to the Company’s success by striving toward operating excellence. To achieve this, the Operations Manager will nurture a collaborative environment that allows for process improvements to be identified, developed, and implemented, ultimately resulting in effective and productive policies for the team to follow. This will also help build a healthy and enjoyable company culture, which the Operations
Manager will play a role in shaping.

Responsibilities. The Operations Manager has direct responsibilities for the operational aspects of logistics and inventory management; manufacturing, vendor and procurement management; wholesale operations and the related opening of international markets; facilities, information technology and data storage. In addition, the Operations Manager will assist the
CEO and COO in business planning, business modeling, preparing business analyses and reporting. As the Company grows and scales, this position will have positions report to it.

In summary:

  • Help establish and continuously evaluate standard operating procedures, operations systems, processes and best practices
  • Purchase contracted manufactured goods for resale, materials and supplies, plan inventory, and oversee warehouse requirements and efficiency
  • Manage manufacturing and vendor relationships, with emphasis on those in China
  • Manage logistics and shipping for manufactured goods for resale, from factory to Company warehouse, including logistics providers relationships
  • Oversee IT systems and their implementations, with demonstrated experience in EDI, inventory, ERP systems
  • Help the organization’s processes remain legally compliant

  • Analyze data to meet Company objectives and improve profitability
  • Ensure operations are carried on in an appropriate, cost-effective way
  • Monitor budgets and forecasts
  • Perform quality controls and monitor production KPIs
  • Recruit, train, and supervise staff
  • Find ways to increase the quality of customer service.

Skills and Qualifications

  • “Big picture” thinking/strategic thinking, which is key to addressing top-level issues, and finding the best solutions forward from available data.
  • Empathetic, interpersonal skills are mandatory. The Operations Manager not only communicates regularly with all levels of the Company, but is responsible for creating and implementing workflows that require a high degree of collaboration, and for representing the Company externally with vendors and wholesale accounts and others.
  • A thorough understanding of financial and budgeting processes and principles, and KPIs, which allows the Operations Manager to assess the Company’s performance and find areas for improvements to ways of getting our mission accomplished.
  • Excellent personal and professional judgement, as the Operations Manager will be responsible for assisting the CEO and COO with business planning, and budget management, and with representing the Company externally through vendor management.
  • Adaptability, enabling the Operations Manager to respond quickly in a rapidly growing environment, and to adjust initiatives and priorities accordingly.
  • Organization skills and the flexibility to jump from priority to priority, track progress, and lead teams through workflow changes with their input, all essential to a role that juggles a variety of functions and projects on a weekly basis.

Education and Prior Experience

The ideal candidate will hold a bachelor’s degree and 7 years work experience in operations, with background in consumer products, ecommerce and/or retailing. Vendor management with manufacturers located in China is highly desirable. Experience in a high-growth, rapidly scaling environment is also highly desirable.

  • Proven work experience as an operations manager or similar role
  • Knowledge of organizational effectiveness and operations management
  • Experience with related operations software systems, i.e., inventory, ERP, EDI

Reporting Relationships

The Operations Manager will report to the COO. As the Company scales, the Operations Manager will directly supervise team positions, yet to be determined.

Location

The Operations Manager is a remote position. Regular travel to the Company’s warehouse in Spokane,
WA will be required.

Additional Requirements

  • Technology Skills. Proficiencies include MS Office 365, Web management, document storage systems, overall systems security, EDI, B2B portals. Experience with inventory systems, ERP systems. Ability to manage outsourced IT consultants.
  • Knowledge of Human Resources. General knowledge of federal and state employment laws, regulations, safety and industry regulations. Confidentiality is a must.
