Position Summary

Position Summary:

UNM-Taos Library is seeking an engaged and motivated student employee interested in a dynamic customer service work environment. Student Library Assistants are the first point of contact most people have with the University Library, and will assist with most daily operations.

Student Assistants will work with Library Staff to:

  • Assist student, faculty, and community library patrons with finding and checking out library materials.
  • Assist library patrons with technology including; accessing online databases, assisting students in the computer lab and printing, laptops, and MiFi hotspots.
  • Open and/or close University Library facilities with staff and help ensure the library remains a welcoming destination for all.
  • Shelving books and library materials.
  • Participate in other ongoing projects as assigned.
  • Assist with Programming and displays

Applicants must be able to work in a team environment. All student employees may be asked to work nights and/or weekends. All UNM-Taos student employees are employed on a term basis for the current/impending school year. All library student employees must be able to shelve books and perform other physical activities as required. Please submit a resume and cover letter with your application.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Good customer service skills.
  • Good organizational and office skills.
  • Ability to use computers, including word-processing programs and other applications; must be Microsoft Word proficient.
  • Experience conducting online searching and using email.
  • Ability to sort alphabetically.
  • Ability to comfortably share information with, and work with people.
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision.
  • Must be willing to work evenings.
  • Must be eligible for financial aid.
  • Able to bend, stoop and lift up to 25 pounds and work in enclosed spaces.
  • Must be enrolled at least ½ time.
