HR Generalist Job at Federal Signal Corporation
Federal Signal has an immediate opening for an HR Generalist based at our University Park, Illinois location.
Essential Job Duties & Responsibilities:
- Responsible for the following HR Generalist activities: recruitment and selection, onboarding, coaching, performance management and corrective action, team building, leadership and organizational development, change management, training, exit interviews, etc.
- Provides input into best executing the company's HR strategy, policies, programs and objectives to promote high employee engagement and effective employee and management relations.
- Assists in preparation of and may aid in facilitation of talent and succession planning, career pathing, performance appraisal process and other project management activities.
- Initiates proactive partnerships with functional managers to identify opportunities to improve business results.
- Provides both strategic and day-to-day tactical HR support for assigned client groups.
- Maintains awareness of business challenges in other functional areas, and proactively proposes "HR" solutions to address problems where appropriate.
- Work with supervisors and management team to monitor performance management process including identifying and addressing performance issues and management of performance improvement plans.
- Assists in management of community relations activities with local school districts, colleges and universities to strengthen Federal Signal’s presence and contributions to the community through internship and career expo participation.
- Assists and implements strategies to retain key associates and create a positive and productive work environment and culture with a focus on talent management and retention.
- Maintains up-to-date knowledge of industry and HR trends, standards, and "best practices." Stays abreast of applicable human resources regulations and trends; utilizes this knowledge in day-to-day activities.
- Other duties as assigned.
Position Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in related field required, PHR or SPHR preferred.
- Minimum 3-5 years’ experience in Human Resources functions required.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Strong customer service focus with ability to manage and resolve conflict.
- Knowledge of state and federal employment law, including HR technical knowledge of EEO, AA, FLSA, FMLA, ADA, unemployment and worker’s compensation.
- Experience in performance management and salary position recruitment required.
- Prior experience working with HRIS, various database and timekeeping software. Experience with UltiPro & Kronos preferred.
- Demonstrated expertise in active listening and coaching.
- Ability to take on great capacity, prioritize, focus and independently execute in a high-quality manner.
- Capable of building business partnerships with all levels of employees and management.
- Strong customer service focus and follow-through skills.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Proficient with MS Office suite software including Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint required.
