Wind River Nations Growing Gardens and Food Justice is a community designed and led organization dedicated to the advancement of equitable food security and sovereignty among the people of Wind River Reservation, through community and home gardening opportunities. Our mission is to promote the reclaiming of health and wellness through increased access to fresh, locally grown fruits and vegetables as an important connection to traditional indigenous culture, foods, and an overall sense of well-being for all of us. In service to this mission, GG&FJ provides hands-on and mentoring support for individual home-based and community gardens, and increases fresh produce access by collaborating on creative distribution efforts such as farmers markets, mobile markets, community garden-based food sharing, and educational events — all in Wind River Reservation.

Member Duties : The Wind River Growing Gardens and Food Justice VISTA will promote and fully implement the newly installed Ethete Community Garden in Wyoming’s Wind River Reservation. The position includes a variety of duties focused on overall garden management and promotion, including developing garden policies, recruiting gardeners, mentoring, organizing training, overseeing production on a reserved section of the garden area that will include planting, growing, harvesting, and distributing fresh fruits and vegetables to community members living with food insecurity; helping with individual community gardener needs including signing up for garden plots, learning how to grow and harvest their gardens, how to follow community garden policies; assisting with local farmers markets as needed; and assisting with community events sponsored by Wind River Growing Gardens and Food Justice including the annual Food Sovereignty conference, gardening trainings, recipes and food preparation.
