SeKON is looking for a Web Designer to join our talented and innovative team supporting Centers for Disease Control (CDC) COVID-19 Web Services in Atlanta, GA. Due to COVID-19, this role is 100% remote for the foreseeable future. The CDC’s COVID-19 website was stood up in January 2020 and has grown exponentially since that time. The website is the primary way CDC communicated and disseminates critical health information and guidance. So far, the COVID-19 site has received over 1.3 billion-page views making the site a critical, highly visible part of CDC’s COVID-19 emergency response.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Provide day-to-day maintenance of a CDC Website using CDC’s standard Web Content Management System (WCMS).
  • Update the Website using Web software applications, techniques, and tools using Web-based technologies such as Extensible Markup Language (XML), Hyper Text Markup Language (HTML)/HTML5, JavaScript (JS)/jQuery, Cascading Style Sheets (CSS)/CSS3, Photoshop, and other design-related applications.
  • Ensure each page displays correctly in all view ports and is cross-browser and device compatible to support responsive web design. Support design efforts to enhance look and feel of organization online offerings and upgrade website(s) to support organization strategies and goals
  • Ensure that pages comply with all federal, HHS and CDC standards. Regularly produce and review orphan pages and other site reports
  • Provide WordPress development, graphic design support, mockups, images, and strategy to enhance the visual appeal and user experience for CDC websites.
  • Supporting the collection, reporting, and analysis of web metrics on an ad hoc and recurring basis
  • Create and present functional demonstration web site designs (mock-ups, wire frames), consult with site owners to modify design, deploy site, and provide ongoing maintenance and training
  • Evaluate, recommend, and install web-related software, applications
  • Ensuring that Site CDC clearance, 508 compliance, plain language review, taxonomic tagging, and internal and external search engine optimization.
  • Support web governance, change management, training activities, and other guidance to CDC staff and contractors.

EXPERIENCE:

  • Eligible for Public Trust Clearance
  • 4 years’ experience developing websites (at least 2 years using WordPress development)
  • Familiar with U.S. government requirements for Section 508 Accessibility, PDF remediation
  • Experienced using HTML, XML, CSS, Java Script, jQuery
  • Experience using web analytic tools (web server statistics/analytics and reporting Google analytics, Site/Catalyst – Adobe Analytics)
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite
  • Comfortable working in a fast pace environment

HIGHLY PREFERRED:

  • Experience creating/editing graphics using Photoshop, Fireworks, multimedia using Premiere – Adobe Creative Suite
  • CDC experience
