BASIC FUNCTION: The Operator performs routine work in the operation of water/wastewater equipment and facilities.

PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Operate and maintain pumps, motors, wells, chlorinators, chemical feed devices, water measurement devices, float controls, starter switches, degritters and/or clarifiers.

2. Maintain production, treatment and/or collection records.

3. Perform tests, retrieve test samples and may utilize laboratory equipment.

4. Perform facility ground and structure maintenance.

5. Execute service work orders, distribute notices, test equipment, and assess leaks and stoppages.

6. Perform other related duties as assigned.

Knowledge: Basic knowledge of City’s utility systems; knowledge of practices and techniques used for water/wastewater utility operation and maintenance.

Education: High School diploma or GED.

Experience: Two years of full-time experience as an operator, operator apprentice or crew leader in related field.

NOTE: Any work-related experience resulting in acceptable proficiency levels in the above Minimum Qualifications may be an acceptable substitute for the above-specified education and experience requirements.

Licenses and Certificates: Two years of full-time experience as an operator, operator apprentice or crew leader in related field.
