Hiring: Utility Systems Helper/Worker

THIS IS A DIRECT HIRE SOLICITATION - THIS POSITION IS BEING ADVERTISED THROUGH THE DIRECT-HIRE AUTHORITY (DHA) FOR DOMESTIC DEFENSE INDUSTRIAL BASE (DIB) FACILITIES AND IS OPEN TO ALL U.S. CITIZENS.

Salary Range: $20.54 - $25.51 per hour with growth potential to $29.81 (Rotating Shifts Required)

This is a TERM appointment and it may be extended for up to a total of 8 years.

Duties: Serves as a helper and/or worker assisting operators in the central boiler and industrial wastewater treatment plants. Candidate will work in a developmental capacity in the above areas as well as roads and grounds. Candidate will assist with a variety of assignments to include working with pumps, motors, piping, plumbing and basic electrical. Use of a wide variety of hand and power tools is required. Candidate will assist with monitoring instruments and analyzing samples. Assist Wastewater Treatment Plant operators in installing, maintaining, or repairing equipment and controls utilized for the chemical treatment of industrial waste. Perform a variety of laborer duties, such as load and unload supplies, perform maintenance on tools and equipment, perform general landscaping tasks. Perform snow removal operations when needed.

Qualifications: To qualify, your resume must reflect the experience requirements described below. Each grade has different qualifications, which must be met in order to be considered for this position.

WG-05: Minimum Qualifications: Ability to do the work of a Utility Systems Helper without more than normal supervision which includes the ability to: (1) Utilize machines, hand and/or power tools; (2) Performing small engine maintenance such as fueling, air filter replacement or checking oil; and (3) Ability to measure.

WG-08 Minimum Qualifications: Ability to do the work of a Utility Systems Worker without more than normal supervision which includes the ability to: (1) Utilize machines, hand and/or power tools; (2) Performing small engine maintenance such as fueling, air filter replacement or checking oil, (3) Ability to measure; and (4) to perform duties as a wastewater treatment plant worker and/or boiler plant worker.

You will be evaluated on the basis of your level of competency in the following areas:

· Ability To Do The Work Of The Position Without More Than Normal Supervision

· Ability To Use and Maintain Tools and Equipment

· Use of Measuring Instruments

· Dexterity and Safety

· Knowledge of Equipment Assembly, Installation, Repair, etc.

· Work Practices (includes keeping things neat, clean, and in order)

Requirements for Position:

· Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a complete background investigation.

· Employee is required to work rotating shifts.

· The employee is required to work other than normal duty hours, which may include evenings, weekends, and/or holidays.

· This position requires employee to complete training in accordance with the Watervliet Arsenal operator certification requirements within one year of incumbency.

· This position requires the completion of a pre-employment Physical Examination and an annual examination thereafter to ensure the continued, required level of physical health and ability or fitness to perform the duties of the position.

· This position requires the incumbent to possess and maintain a valid state Driver's License in one of the 50 U.S. states or possessions to operate vehicles.

· Employee may be required to work overtime on an emergency basis.

· This position requires the employee to occasionally travel away from the normal duty station.

· Employee may be called back to work during non-duty hours (including weekends) to support emergency situations or make emergency repairs.

· This position involves duties that are subject to Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA) regulations regarding hazardous wastes.

· This position requires the employee to use personal protective equipment provided by the employer.

· Incumbent frequently lifts and carries items weighing up to 40-50 pounds unassisted, and occasionally lifts and carries heavier items with assistance of other workers or with lifting devices.

· If the selectee is a current permanent Army employee, he/she will lose their permanent status and be converted to a Term appointment.

· Position may be filled by a Term appointment not to exceed 2 years, if the candidate is not a current permanent Army employee. Term appointments may be extended up to a maximum of eight years.

· Term employment is subject to a two year trial period. Employees serving a trial period can be removed with limited appeal rights.
