As a Senior Controls Software Engineer working at Medtronic, you will be a key contributor to the controls software for the robotic kinematics subsystem. You will focus on the design, development, and testing of controls and kinematics algorithms for the Hugo surgical robot and other associated robotics projects. In addition, you will help shape requirements, testing, debugging, and tools to help support the controls and software development teams.

Design and develop kinematics and controls algorithms and supporting tools using Simulink and MATLAB

Integrate and test new controller designs on hardware and with the rest of the robotic platform

Define and review software requirements pertaining to controls and robot kinematics

Partner with the greater software organization, systems engineering, and validation groups

Review teammates’ MATLAB/Simulink models and ensure that all software meets quality standards

Participate in an Agile development process with a cross-functional collaboration of various teams.

Prepare and participate in design reviews

Document or participate in the documentation of the software including architecture and design detail, unit testing, anomaly tracking and reports

Bachelor’s degree required
-
Minimum of 4 years of relevant experience, or advanced degree with a minimum of 2 years relevant experience

Bachelor’s Degree and five years of relevant experience, Master's or PhD degree strongly preferred.

Proficient use of modeling & simulation software (MATLAB/Simulink strongly preferred)

Familiarity with multi-body kinematics, coordinate frames, and dynamics

Demonstrated experience designing, implementing, and analyzing control systems for highly accurate mechatronic and robotic systems.

Signal processing experience (discrete/digital methods and algorithms)

Experience with real-time software on microprocessor-based systems and developing software in a Linux environment (Ubuntu preferred)

Integrating mechanical and electrical hardware and software, particularly in an embedded context

Medical product development process highly desired-regulator processes, safety considerations, hands-on experience with medical/surgical devices/instruments

Experience launching commercial medical software products

Knowledge of surgical robotics and minimally invasive surgery

Experience with a big company with matrix structures, having already worked with cross functional teams within an international environment

Excellent technical communication skills

Fluency in English is required (German a plus)
