The Opportunity

In support of the Town of Paradise Valley’s (Town) mission to provide high-quality public services to a community that values limited government, the Security Officer performs armed duties and ensures the safety of all persons at the Paradise Valley Municipal Court.

More specifically, the Security Officer will:

• Provides an armed security presence at the main court entrance and conducts an overwatch of entry screening procedures.
• Responds to potentially high-risk situations involving the safety of court personnel and the public.
• Monitors security systems, including closed-circuit television (CCTV), fire and security alarms, and access control hardware.
• Provides close judicial officer protection to include liaising with police regarding communicated threats.
• Provides courtroom security including security sweeps, jury protection, and high-risk trial support.
• Provides critical incident response, to include but not limited to active shooter interdiction.
• Attends courtroom civil and criminal proceedings.
• Qualifies with firearms, and other defensive tactics and/or less lethal weapons.

To become a Security Officer, the Town requires:

• A high school diploma or GED.
• Three years of police officer experience OR an equivalent position with the United States Armed Forces (military).
• Preferred Qualification: Successful completion from a certified local, state, or federal, or military law enforcement training program that provided instruction on the use of police powers in an armed capacity while dealing with the public.

The successful candidate must also:

• Must be at least 21 years of age at the time of application.
• Successfully complete a background investigation, which includes a polygraph and pre-employment drug testing.
