Role

Under close supervision, performs general office and clerical work of moderate difficulty.

Major Duties, Responsibilities

  • Performs clerical and office procedures.

  • Receives, sorts, files and retrieves forms, mail, or other types of documents.

  • Coordinates flow of clerical work with that of other departments and agencies.

  • Answers phones and works as front line staff for public.

  • Controls and maintains a filing system, compiles data, and prepares reports.

  • Performs specific functional duties relative to the division, department or section assigned.

  • Operates a variety of office equipment such as copy machine, computer, etc.

  • Performs complex checking, proofreading and coding.

  • Performs other job related functions or duties as assigned.

Expectations:

  • The ability to make arithmetic computations with speed and accuracy.
  • To maintain records and prepare reports.
  • To establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, other agencies and the public.
  • To follow written and verbal instructions.
  • To communicate effectively verbally, in writing, and orally with public and employees in a face-to-face setting and via telephone.

Minimum Qualifications

Experience:
A minimum of one (1) year of general office/clerical experience.

Education:
High school diploma or GED.

Other Skills

Interpersonal Skills:
Work occasionally involves contacts with persons beyond immediate co-workers generally regarding routine matters for purposes of giving or obtaining information that may require some discussion. Outside contacts take the form of service to the public (citizens or vendors) requiring ordinary courtesy in providing normal assistance to provide information.

Other Skills:
Must successfully pass an extensive background investigation, fingerprinting and a criminal history check, and a driving record check through the Motor Vehicle Division.

Physical Requirements:
Must be able to operate a variety of standard office equipment requiring continuous or repetitive arm-hand movements; enter data into a keyboard device; remain in a sitting position for extended periods of time.
