Procurement Specialist– The Procurement Specialist must be responsible and portray professional behavior for the purpose of working with staff and preferred provides for supplies and services. The main functions of this position are to support Knik Tribe in finding and ordering supplies need for the programs.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
- Purchase supplies, materials, and parts for the company.
- Maintain organization vehicle records and maintenance schedules.
- Assist with Annual Liability Insurance renewal.
- Develop and maintain inventory databases for supplies and materials used. Facilitates upgrades to related database and/or software.
- Establishes and maintains backup source for high-demand items.
- Assess inventory reports and other patterns to identify items in need of automatic, recurring delivery.
- Review purchase orders and contracts for compliance with company and departmental policies.
- Develops and maintains good working relationships with vendors.
- Communicate with suppliers to resolve problems that may arise regarding delivery, quality, price, or conditions of sale.
- Purchases large and complex items,
- Develops and implements policies and procedures related to purchasing and inventory control with a goal to maximize efficiency and optimize workflow.
- Ensures adherence to approved budget(s).
- Coordinate the preparation of check requests and purchase requisitions, and maintain communication related to expenses to the Department Director, Academy Manager, and the Accounting Department.
- Coordinate with Accounting Department on all requests, questions, and instructions.
- Conducts frequent spot and partial audits of physical inventory.
- Conducts periodic (at least annual) physical inventory audits.
- Maintain confidentiality according to regulations and procedures.
- Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Requirements:
- Associates degree in Business or related field. An equivalent combination of education and experience to successfully perform the essential duties and functions of the job may be substituted for Associate’s Degree.
- Three (3) years of progressive responsible purchasing and procurement experience.
- Bookkeeping or accounting experience preferred.
- Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of the socio-cultural needs of the Alaska Native and American Indian community.
- Must pass a state and federal background check.
- Clan driving record.
Physical Requirements:
- Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
- Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds at times.
- Must be able to navigate warehouse and reach items both high and low.
- May be asked to travel to visit vendors or different company locations.
Hiring Preference:
Preferences shall be given to eligible and qualified Alaska Native/American Indian applicants pursuant to P.L. 93-638 Indian Self-Determination Act.
