General Duty Statement

The Office of Human Resources provides comprehensive support to the sixteen City departments and its 3,000 employees. Information Specific to this Position:
Performs expert level strategic leadership and professional design work involving planning, preparing, and disbursing payroll for the City. Supervises a team of payroll staff in delivering payroll accurately and effectively for the City workforce. Supervises, monitors work, provides work direction and training, coaches employees, and participates in ongoing staff development and evaluation. Serves on the leadership team and recommends and implements payroll policies and procedures to meet the City responsibilities with respect to labor agreements and system updates. Analyzes and coordinates payroll system enhancements and modifications. Prepares budget information, calculations, and reports. Performs related duties and responsibilities as required.

This position is responsible for full supervision of a team of nine full-time employees.

Requirements

Ten years of progressively responsible professional experience in payroll administration, which includes one year of leadership or supervisory experience.

OR

An Associate’s Degree in the above areas and eight years of progressively responsible professional experience in payroll administration, which includes one year of leadership or supervisory experience.

OR

A Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration, Finance, Accounting, Public Administration or a related field, and six years of progressively responsible professional experience in payroll administration, which includes one year of leadership or supervisory experience.

Assessment: Qualifications Rating

The Qualifications Rating is an assessment of your completed application, resume, and answers to the Supplemental Questionnaire. GENERAL INFORMATION:

Open Job Posting: This posting is open to anyone who meets the position requirements.

Eligible Lists: Eligible lists typically are created from a pass/fail assessment. Those who pass the assessment will be placed on an eligible list for approximately six months. Hiring Managers may interview/hire anyone from the list.

Final Selection Process: You must receive a score of 75% or higher to pass the assessment and be considered for the position. Those who pass will be placed on an eligible list and all will be notified of their status. A Hiring Manager will consider those applicants eligible for hire. You will be notified if you are invited to participate in the final selection process which may include an interview, job simulation, work sample submission, or other evaluation method.

Condition of Employment: This position requires a background check which may include criminal history, and employment history as a condition of employment. Candidates will be required to submit proof of education to Human Resources upon conditional job offer.
