Position: K-8 Spanish teacher

Description: We are seeking to hire a Spanish Teacher to work with our K-8 classes 2x per week; 8- 45 min. classes per week in total.

Start Date: Sept. 6, 2023 for the 2023-2024 School Year

About Us: Prairie School of DuPage is a small, private, elementary school located on 42 acres of prairie, woods, and wetlands in Wheaton, Illinois. We provide a progressive, nature-based and project-based education to students aged 3-14. Job Summary: Prairie School of DuPage Elementary teachers are part of a collaborative team that works toward each student’s academic and social-emotional success. The teachers work in conjunction with the students’ interests to create authentic, experiential learning opportunities. The K-8 Spanish teacher will bring consistent, age-appropriate, authentic and engaging programming to mixed-age groups. Curriculum and lesson plans will be the responsibility of the teacher to create or provide.

Expected Outcomes:

• Creates an appreciation of culture and foreign language
• Brings Spanish programming through projects and authentic experiences in a way that supports the individual student’s learning needs
• Lesson plans and curriculum are consistent, conversational, experiential, engaging, and age-appropriate
• The curriculum builds from K-8 preparing 8th graders for Spanish 2 in high school
• Creates a classroom culture where the student’s needs, interests, and voices contribute to the overall direction of classroom projects
• Dependable and reliable
• Autonomous and independent- able to create lesson plans for each age group independently

Qualifications:

• Native speaker, major in Spanish, or 5+ years teaching subject
• Fluent in both Spanish and English
• Must have a College or Associate degree or currently enrolled in a college
• Must love working with children
• ‪Experience teaching and writing lesson plans required.
• Must have the ability to move between several different classrooms and age groups.
• 3+ years of experience teaching Spanish to elementary or middle school age students

• Willing and able to teach outdoors, when weather permits
• Positive, kind and gentle disposition with children
• High-energy, creative, organized, flexible, nurturing, and collaborative spirit

We have 42 acres of campus and Spanish will be held outside when possible, when inside seating is socially distanced, masks are required, we are using COVID regulated cleaning protocol as specified by the CDC and IDPH, acrylic dividers, and much more.
