$96,616.00 ‐ $129,542.40 Annually (DOE)

WORKING HOURS AND LOCATION
In this position you will generally work Monday through Friday 7am – 4pm, however, this schedule represents the minimum time expected for the job. Work hours may vary as needed to carry out city wide essential services associated with Street &
Fleet Maintenance. You will respond to calls for assistant on a 24/7 basis and frequently respond to calls received outside of normal working hours regarding accidents, flooding, snow and icy conditions, mud slides, fallen trees or traffic control signs.

Your office would be located at the Streets & Fleet City Shop at 7100 Glacier Highway, minutes away from the Mendenhall
Valley with the Heintzlemann Ridge Trail in close proximity. Permanent parking is provided and outdoor picnic benches are available for breaks.

DESCRIPTION OF WHAT YOU WILL BE DOING
This position is responsible for The Streets & Fleet Maintenance Division within the Department of Engineering & Public Works.
This position reports directly to the Engineering & Public Works Director. The responsibilities of this position span multiple operational functions of 2 major CBJ programs, including assessing streets, street appurtenances and fleet maintenance needs; asset management, infrastructure repairs and replacement; directing resources to meet community and CBJ demands in compliance with local state and federal regulations; and ensuring employees and resources are used safely, efficiently and economically. Administrative functions include managing, overseeing and directing finances, contracts, and customer service and customer service programs.

The Streets & Fleets Maintenance Division employ 3 supervisors, 2 administrative staff and provides general direction and guidance to approximately 29 positions (equipment operators, mechanics and laborers).

WHO WE ARE LOOKING FOR
In this position, you will have the opportunity to lead a team of hard working public employees dedicated to providing core city services. Through delegating, coaching and mentorship you will develop the decision‐making, management and supervisory skills of your direct reports while maintaining a positive and engaged workplace culture for the Streets and Fleet teams. A working knowledge of FMSCA regulatory requirements and funding opportunities, road and street maintenance standards, inspection criteria, local, state, and federal regulations, policies and practices for preventative maintenance and repair of vehicles will be put to good use in this position.

This position requires the ability to generate long and short‐term plans to achieve division goals and the skill necessary to successfully communicate and execute those plans. You will communicate and coordinate with internal divisions of PW/ENG such as Engineering, Water and Wastewater Utilities and outside agencies such as Alaska Department of Transportation and US

Forest Service on road maintenance issues and reconstruction projects. The Operations Superintendent for Street & Fleet
Maintenance interacts with the public and is in a position to explain the responsibilities and obligations of the division. The combined budget of Streets & Fleet Maintenance is approximately $10M, requiring a successful applicant to have experience in budget development and fiscal accountability.

As Operations Superintendent you will lead the Streets & fleet Maintenance Division into the future. A successful candidate will have the leadership and interpersonal skills to effectively prioritize and manage work through others while maintaining positive morale and engagement.

DO I HAVE THE QUALIFICATIONS FOR THIS JOB – OUR DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS
Desirable Qualifications
Three years of professional experience in the broad occupational fields of the division or department and any combination of two years of supervisory or managerial experience, which may be concurrent with the professional experience.

*Initial appointment to all FMCSA positions requiring a CDL will be made conditionally pending (1) receipt of verified negative results of pre‐employment testing for controlled substances and (2) passing a 3 year drug & alcohol testing background check with previous DOT employers. Employees must register with the FMCSA Clearinghouse and provide CBJ with paper and electronic consent for a full query of the driver’s Clearinghouse record. The Operations Superintendent I is within the partially exempt service and serves at the pleasure of the Engineering & Public Works
