JOB TITLE:
Data Tech NS System Support (Nutrition Services Specialist)
REPORTS TO: Nutrition Services Manager
FTE: 1.0 (8 hours per day)
Start Date: As soon as possible after hire

GENERAL DUTIES SUMMARY:
This position provides support for the Nutrition Services (NS) department related to point-of- sale (POS) and purchasing software/hardware, as well as production records, menu planning, and other Child Nutrition related assignments. Involves training, troubleshooting, and work methods. This position is responsible for the National School Lunch Program (NSLP) requirements for the Free and Reduced-price meal Program, assuring compliance with current laws and ordinances related to Child Nutrition Programs. Provide high quality customer service and technical support and program assistance and training to Nutrition Services staff district-wide.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Manage the NSLP Free and Reduced-Price Meal (FR) program and act as the Benefits Specialist and Eligibility Official.
  • Manage the implementation and use of Point-of-Sale and other related Nutrition Services software and hardware. Includes installing, managing, and maintaining all department technology.
  • Assess problems that develop in the daily operation of NS staff and equipment and provide direct assistance to persons at local sites as well as electronic support to remote sites.
  • Serve as expert resource and provide resources, knowledge and direction to NS staff and administration related to Child Nutrition Programs including technology, the Free/Reduced Meal Program, USDA Meal Pattern, and/or other assigned area of responsibility.
  • Maintain integrity of confidential information relating to students, staff, and/or district patrons.
  • Manage and coordinate the school menus, production records, and communication channels across departments and to the public.
  • Manage and maintain the nutrition services website, social media, and other platforms.
  • Ensure District compliance with relevant laws, policies, and program requirements related to Child Nutrition Programs.
  • Provide leadership in the design, configuration, and organization of information within nutrition services processes and systems.
  • Serve as a primary contact, and expert resource, for technical assistance related to an assigned area of responsibility.
  • Respond to public inquiries regarding the FR program and NS procedures or policies, and handle them in a fair and professional manner using tact and courtesy.
  • Respond to emergency situations as needed.

Marginal Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Provide training and professional development to site staff related to an assigned area of responsibility.
  • Collaborate and coordinate with outside agencies, vendors, and other staff to identify needs, determine transmission methods, and standardize workflows.
  • Coordinate the creation of various reports, logs, forms, spreadsheets, disaggregated data sets, student data sets, and other POS reports and data to meet governmental reporting requirements and departmental needs.
  • Report to other work sites on a temporary basis to fill a significant need.
  • Sub in kitchens, as needed.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:
Minimum:
  • Demonstrated knowledge of food industry standards and State/Federal Child Nutrition Program regulation
  • Knowledgeable of USDA guidelines, Child Nutrition Programs, and application within the scope of this position
  • Possess a strong commitment to customer service
  • Communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing
  • Collaborate with all stakeholders to ensure proper follow up and follow through of assigned projects.
  • Ability to work harmoniously with others and display strong interpersonal skills using tact, patience and courtesy
  • Use of basic technology skills: email, spreadsheets, forms, calendar, website, and other tools as needed
  • Master District and professional computer programs and software.
  • Excellent coordination, planning, and organizing skills to prioritize and complete multiple tasks
  • Follow directions without detail support
  • Display integrity, ingenuity and inventiveness in the performance of assigned tasks
  • Function under the stress of multiple commands or constrictive time lines
  • Remain flexible when normal duties and schedules are interrupted or changed to meet the needs of the Department or District
  • Ability to perform a wide variety of duties and responsibilities with accuracy and speed under the pressure of time-sensitive deadlines

Preferred:
  • CPR and/or First Aid card
  • Hold or obtain Food Service card
  • Hold or obtain an Oregon or Washington State Driver’s License
  • Fluency in Spanish preferred, but not required

EDUCATION and EXPERIENCE:

  • Graduation from high school or completion of the GED certificate
  • College level course work or completion from tech school preferred
  • Hold any combination of education and experience, which would provide the applicant with the desired skills, knowledge and ability required to perform the job

Works in close proximity to others and interacts with co-workers, administrator, school-based NS staff, students, State personnel and other visitors. Work is performed within the NS Central office as well as at school sites. Work areas are well lit, well ventilated and noise is quiet to moderate for most work, but could include moderate to loud noise in office and cafeterias.
The job requires a significant amount of time sitting/standing while using a computer. Can include occasional:

EVALUATION

Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with the provisions in the Collective Bargaining Agreement between Tigard-Tualatin School District 23J and Oregon School Employees Association Chapter 51.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT
The assignment of the step will be in compliance with the current Collective Bargaining Agreement between Tigard-Tualatin School District 23J and Oregon School Employees Association Chapter 51 and the range of pay is located in the current Classified Salary Schedule.
