Independence Plus, an innovative agency supporting young adults with mild intellectual disabilities in West Los Angeles, is looking for PART-TIME and FULL-TIME Life Skills Instructors to join their team.

IN-PERSON SERVICES ARE PROVIDED IN WEST LA, INGLEWOOD, CULVER CITY, SANTA MONICA, WESTWOOD, ETC. EMPLOYEES MUST HAVE PERSONAL TRANSPORTATION.
Supportive Living Skills Instructor:
Instructors help mild developmentally disabled and Autistic clients learn the basics of adult life including: cooking, banking, using public transportation, grocery shopping, following and finding recipes, managing medical appointments, and general housekeeping. We also focus on assisting clients entering the next level of adulthood through work opportunities, enrollment in college classes, volunteering, joining adult sports leagues, and introducing them to local groups and clubs.
Independence Plus has an inclusion focused, community strong, modern philosophy which our instructors must also embrace. Our instructors serve as community liaisons and role models, demonstrating respectful interaction with clients so they are treated with dignity by the community.
Instructors should be energetic, outgoing, and compassionate individuals who always greet clients and community members with a smile and respect. They should be natural-born leaders and thoughtful communicators. Instructors must be extremely organized, responsible, and able to manage a fluctuating schedule.
Position Responsibilities:
- Provide support and assistance to people with Autism, Mild Intellectual Disabilities, and other Regional Center qualifying disabilities
- Responsible for assisting clients with living skills instruction and support in their homes and in the community
- Responsibilities may include, but are not limited to, teaching clients to: manage money, grocery
transportation, apply for work, enroll in college classes, and find extracurricular activities
- Treat the client with dignity and respect at all times. Ensure the client is viewed well within the eyes of the community
- Responsible for writing and organizing detailed progress reports and notes
- Responsible for managing a self-directed schedule
- Attend any annual and quarterly meetings with the client and their support team
- Attend scheduled Company trainings, supervisions, and progress meetings
- Communicate confidently with families and Regional Center personnel
- Reports directly to a Case Coordinator and Director of Client Services
Skills and Qualifications:
- COVID-19 VACCINATION card
- Ability to assist clients in their homes and in their community
- Excellent oral and written communication
- Outstanding organizational skills
- Strong familiarity with mobile apps and devices
- Basic computer knowledge
- Must be available to work weekend or evening hours (if applicable)
- Valid CA Driver's License, proof of auto insurance and registration, and acceptable moving violation record
- Must pass general health and drug screening
- Must have proof of eligibility to work in the USA
- Familiarity with Regional Center Services a plus
- Bilingual a plus
- 6+ months of related social service or social work experience a plus
