Job Description

Job Title: Back Office Staff - Nurse & Medical Assistant

Summary: Provides prescribed medical treatment and personal care services while assisting in examination and treatment of patients under direction of Physician by performing the following duties.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

Collaborate with other members of the care team.

Greet everyone (patients, visitors, patrons) who walks through the front door with professionalism and friendliness and courtesy.

Room patient including obtaining vital signs, reconcile and document medications the patient is taking, allergies, depression screening using the PHQ tool, ask about tobacco and alcohol abuse, open flow sheets at every visit for patients with designated chronic conditions, assist patients to set self-management goals if due

Advise provider of additional pertinent information that is not documented (i.e. if there are concerns about how to document then defer to provider to address)

Contact patients regarding results of testing, messages from providers, medication needs, schedule and coordinate appointments and labs.

Take incoming calls; triage call, schedule, reschedule appointments as needed. Give lab results, test results or other information to patients via phone or email

Manage EHR tickler: call, e-mail, mail patients to remind them they are due for appointments, labs, imaging, specialist or other follow up.

Set patients up with Medfusion Portal, answer questions re: email as needed

Keep exam room clean, clutter free and stocked with supplies/patient handouts and monitor that equipment is functioning.

Assist provider with in-office procedures and hands instruments and materials to doctor as directed

Set up follow up appointments with BFP, specialist visits, etc. as needed

Show patient to lab if needed

Give vaccines/ injections or treatments as needed and performs routine laboratory tests

Check emails- respond accordingly to patient or forward to provider to address

Check telephone notes, prioritize based on importance- respond accordingly or task to provider for response if needed

Check 'in box'- in the file room to get provider paperwork, specialist office notes, test results, etc. Sort, prioritize, update EMR, and give to the appropriate provider.

Interviews patients, measures vital signs, such as pulse rate, temperature, blood pressure, weight, and height, and records information on patients' charts

Drapes patients with covering and positions instruments and equipment

Cleans and sterilizes instruments

Operates electrocardiograph (EKG), and other equipment to administer routine diagnostic test

Keys data into computer to maintain office and patient records

Maintain patient privacy with HIPAA compliance

Education/Experience:

High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or one to three months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.

Computer Skills:

To perform this job successfully, prefer an individual have knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Internet Explorer). Familiarity with Nextgen.
