What You Will be Doing:
This position offers the best of both worlds for those seeking to perform both design and commissioning work as part of their career progression. You will be able to utilize your creativity in the design element of this position, and work in the field on applications through the commissioning process. In this hybrid role, the incumbent will focus approximately 80% of their time on design and 20% on commissioning tasks from Fall through Spring. For Spring through Summer, the focus shifts to approximately 80% commissioning and 20% design tasks. As a Mechanical Engineer/Designer/Commissioning Agent at Interface Engineering, your responsibilities will include, but may not be limited to:
  • Developing project specifications
  • Performing calculations
  • Performing design and submittal reviews
  • Developing project-specific commissioning plans, pre-functional checklists, site observation reports, and functional performance tests
  • Performing site visits and functional performance testing on new and retro-commissioning projects
To Qualify for Application:
The successful candidate should have:
  • BSME (or equivalent experience). Extensive experience in mechanical startups, test & balance, direct digital controls, energy management, and/or commissioning will be considered in lieu of a degree.
  • 2-10 years’ design consulting experience.
  • 2+ years’ experience in the functional testing of chillers, cooling towers, boilers, air handling systems, radiant floor, phoenix control valves, fume hoods, chilled beams, pumps, backup power systems, and lighting control systems.
  • Previous experience with the design and/or commissioning of laboratories, data centers, higher education, mission critical, K-12 and other commercial facilities.
  • Experience in developing project specific commissioning plans, pre-functional checklists, and functional performance tests.
  • Strong knowledge of building systems including mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and direct digital control systems.
  • Excellent time management and communication skills.
  • Previous experience managing projects from design through occupancy.
  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving aptitude.
  • Strong work ethic and the ability to manage multiple projects within budget.
  • Willingness to travel to conduct site visits, attend meetings, and witness testing.
To Be Competitive for this Role:
Preferred qualifications include:
  • PE License (or interest in obtaining)
  • Commissioning certification from BCxA, ACG, or ASHRAE or interest in obtaining within 6 months of employment.
  • 2+ years’ mechanical design experience on a variety of project types including, but not limited to, education, commercial office, residential, laboratories and healthcare projects.
  • Working knowledge of AutoCAD and REVIT MEP
  • Working knowledge of Trace 700
