Job Details:
The Engineer in this position will generate, process, and approve Service Extension Request (SER) projects (the identification of necessary extension and/or upgrade of infrastructure to meet the proposed development’s needs) for water, wastewater, and reclaimed water service. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Performing technical reviews of SER applications and determining the service requirements (size and scope) to be included in the SER
- Performing engineering analysis to assess system capacity, determine rough proportionality for individual developments, and plan for growth in the service area
- Coordinating the efforts of multi-discipline, multi-agency project teams to complete SER projects
- Preparing Cost Reimbursement Agreements for SER projects in which the City has required the infrastructure to be oversized
- Providing Project Management for design, bidding, and construction of SER cost reimbursement projects
- Preparing documents for and delivering presentations to W/WW Commission and City Council
This position will be filled at one of the following levels depending upon candidate qualifications:
- Graduate Engineer A: $31.65 to $39.56 per hour
- Graduate Engineer B: $32.89 to $41.93 per hour
- Engineer A: $34.86 to $44.45 per hour
- Engineer B: $36.95 to $47.12 per hour
- Engineer C: $38.78 to $50.42 per hour

Preferred Qualifications
Preferred Experience:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Civil, Environmental or Water Resources Engineering
- Knowledge of and/or experience with the City’s Land Development Code (LDC), Austin Water’s Utilities Criteria Manual (UCM), TCEQ utility design criteria, Uniform Plumbing Code, International Fire Code, and other codes and design criteria related to land development and water, wastewater, and reclaimed water infrastructure.
- Knowledge of and/or experience performing utility demand/flow calculations and infrastructure capacity analysis
- Knowledge of and/or experience with utility system design
- Experience with Project Management for design, bidding and construction of utility projects, including experience with cost estimates, budgets, schedules, construction operations, change orders, pay applications, administering contract terms, etc.
- Experience using geographic information systems (GIS) mapping software, such as ArcGIS, ArcPro or similar software
