Crystal Steel Fabricators, Inc., a leading structural steel and miscellaneous metals fabricator, has an opening for a full-time EHS and Lean Manufacturing Coordinator. This position has the goal of improving safety and supporting the company's Lean initiatives at our Crystal Steel Memphis (CSM) locations (3 locations within a 1-mile radius in Gallaway, TN). This position will report to the Plant Manager with a dotted line to the Corporate EHS Director. This person will be responsible for all aspects of EHS including, but not limited to:

Responsibilities:

  • Drive employee engagement to create and foster a proactive, empowered safety culture by conducting daily safety observations on the shop floor and addressing any unsafe behaviors or unsafe conditions
  • Ensuring OSHA 29CFR 1910 Compliance
  • Investigate all near misses, first aids and accidents that occur on-site and complete root cause analysis for each. Ensure appropriate actions have been taken to prevent recurrence.
  • Ensure monthly safety inspections are completed and all non-compliance items are addressed
  • Hold effective safety training for shop personnel and management teams
  • Provide recommendations for improving safety in the workplace
  • Maintain documentation of the company's safety procedures, incident reports and related events
  • Act as a liaison, as needed, between management and external safety agencies, such as OSHA, insurance company or other state agencies
  • Assist in helping to actively manage workers’ compensation cases
  • Update, revise, and maintain current safety program and procedures, as needed

In addition, this position will be expected to help facilitate Lean activities including, but not limited to, the following responsibilities:

  • Act as a change agent to bring about improvements in the manufacturing process through the active support, participation and leadership of Rapid Improvement Events (RIE).
  • Execute key activities as part of Lean Transformation and daily management.
  • Support the launch of all activities needed to incorporate Lean Transformation and daily management into the Value Stream culture.
  • Track all changes/improvements made to provide Value Stream Leadership/Management the assurance that changes are effective and lasting.

Position Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in health and safety or a related field is preferred.
  • At least 3-5 years’ experience in the Environmental, Health and Safety Field at a professional level
  • Crane and Rigging Experience a must
  • OSHA 30 Hour- General Industry, at a minimum
  • Experience working in a Lean working environment.
  • Experience with all Microsoft Office Applications
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including public speaking and presentation
  • Highly energetic; professional demeanor; ability to be self-motivated and organized
  • Interpersonal skills, with the ability to establish effective professional relationships with employees and managers
  • Note: Preference will be given to candidates currently local to the Memphis, TN area.

Preferred Requirements:

  • Experience as a Safety Professional in the Steel Manufacturing/Steel Fabrication Industry
  • Experience with Behavioral Based Safety and a track record of improving site Safety Culture, as well as overall Recordable and Lost Time Rates
  • Environmental Experience (Stormwater, Hazardous Waste, SARA 312/313 Reporting, etc.)
  • Knowledge of basic Lean Manufacturing concepts and continuous improvement-based tools and techniques.

Physical Requirements and/or Unusual Work Hours:

  • Occasional exposure to chemicals, noise, adverse weather, etc.
  • Ability to spend at least 50% of time out on the shop floor and safely move up to 50 pounds
  • This position may be contacted during non-duty hours for emergencies.
  • Must have a valid driver's license and vehicle to drive between shop locations.
